After the most successful year to date in 2014, it’s no wonder the 2015 fixtures for Cartmel Racecourse have been highly anticipated.
And what a year it has been at Cartmel and not just in attendance figures. The Spring Bank Holiday meeting welcomed Champion jockey Tony McCoy who more than lived up to his reputation winning 3 races and the jockey everyone was watching.
Onto the August bank Holiday racing and the William Hill 80th Anniversary Handicap Hurdle was held being the highest class race ever run at Cartmel, a class 2 race with a prize fund of a huge £20,000. This was an amazing day for racing at Cartmel and further goes to show how much the horse racing industry like and respect this Lake District race course.
And finally November is for possible awards as the racecourse has been nominated in 3 categories at the Racing Association Showcase & Awards event at Haydock Park on November 13. The categories Cartmel has reached the finals of are “Food & Beverages”, “Operational Excellence” and “Corporate Social Responsibility”.
Cartmel Managing Director, Jonathan Garratt, said “This is a huge compliment to everyone who is involved with the racecourse: all of our staff, many local contractors and all of the local Clubs and associations that arrange their events here, many of whom also help us to run the racedays.
“We have received our nomination for Corporate Social Responsibility as a direct result of the large amount of community participation on the site – everything from the Cubs and Scouts, through to the sports clubs, the dog-walkers, the Agricultural Show, various charitable events and even the annual fireworks display. Although I am delighted that the racecourse is receiving recognition for innovation and customer service, it is our involvement with the community that makes me proudest of all.”
Baring in mind the growing popularity both for people visiting within Cumbria and those from out of the county, accommodation for each fixture is going to booked earlier and earlier with many visitors having booked already for 2015. With Cartmel accommodation being at a premium, Grange over Sands just 2 miles away is an excellent choice for example Bay Villa the luxury B&B in Grange, rooms available for the first fixture (starting at £235 for 2 nights), Monday 25 May “May Bank Holiday Fun Day”.
